Catching up with the Kucajs

By Darcy Gervais

Last May, Mr. Jeff Kucaj and Miss Kyle Macdonald announced their engagement to the entire WA faculty and students. They were married this past July and are settling down and getting used to life as a married couple.

“You work so hard and work out so many details that, it’s very tiring, it’s very stressful, you kind of just hope that it goes decent and then it ended up going way better than that,” Mrs. Kucaj said about the wedding.

“It was better than decent,” Mr. Kucaj added.

People say that the first year of marriage is the hardest. When asked about the challenges of marriage so far, Mr. and Mrs. Kucaj commented on how Mrs. Kucaj’s name change has caused some confusion with e-mails getting sent to Mr. Kucaj when it’s intended for Mrs. Kucaj and vice-versa.

“The name change has been a bit of a struggle. I did decide to take Mr. Kucaj’s name so now we have a Mr. Kucaj and Mrs. Kucaj in the English office, so, mail gets mixed up, emails get sent to the wrong Kucaj, but other than that it’s pretty similar to the way things were before,” Mrs. Kucaj said.

Despite the Kucajs being married now and working in the same building, they do not always drive to school together as one might expect.

“It depends on the sports season. As a coach I have to stay after for volleyball in the fall and track in the spring, and Mrs. Kucaj has to stay after for the Ghostwriter meetings and that sort of thing, so it depends on the day,” Mr. Kucaj said.

When asked about where the Kucaj’s see themselves ten years into the future, they both had a very positive outlook on what’s to come.

“Still together would be the first thing,” Mrs. Kucaj said.

“Doing another interview here. The ten year anniversary. That’s where I see myself in ten years,” Mr. Kucaj added.

The questions you asked them are great and I like the ending quote. Let’s hope the interview happens in ten years. hah
