By Anna Raboin and Catherine Pears
Staff Writers

Q: Where did you go to college?

Ms. Bourdeau seems to be fitting in well as the new nurse of Westford Academy.

A: Fitchburg State College

Q: When you went there, what did you first decide to major in?
A: Nursing, right away. Right off the bat.

Q: When did you know that you wanted to be a nurse?
A: Probably my senior year of high school.

Q: What made you decide that?
A: I have had diabetes since I was 13 years old. So, I was what we call a chronically ill child, so I spent a lot of time in the hospital around nurses and doctors and think that’s what kind of pushed me toward nursing. And I just enjoyed it. I like people.

Q: Why did you move to Westford?
A: My husband’s from Westford and we just always liked the town. And it has a good school system for our kids, because our kids are young. It’s the place to be.

Q: What were you like as a person in high school? What was it like growing up there?
A: Well, let’s see, I was very chatty. I was the mascot.

Q: What was the school mascot?
A: Chelmsford Lions. I had to wear the big uniform (illustrates grand lion head with hand gestures) and I was very chatty and kind of active and liked sports. I was the baphoon!

Q: We actually looked you up online and we saw that you ran in a 5K.
A: Yes, my first 5K last year, in March. And then I did another one in June. And I successfully came in last.

Q: What else do you like to do besides running?
A: Uh, I can’t say I like running. But I do like to spend time with my kids and family, read.

Q: Did you realize you liked working best with teenagers while you were in high school?
A: No I actually realized that I liked them best when working in my career. I was a healthcare nurse in the community. And my favorite people tended to be the younger kids because we had a variety of patients from babies to seniors and I tend to like the range of the teenagers.

Q: The most important question is: Do you plan on giving out lollipops?
A: How about mints?
