Boys’ Soccer stays undefeated, beats Wayland

 By Doug Boyle
Staff Writer

The Westford Academy Grey Ghosts remain undeafeated in the early season; they defeated the Wayland Warriors 1-0 on Friday, September 21, at Alumni Stadium. Sophomore Sam Brewer who starts at goalie, has only let up one goal all season for the Ghosts and had three saves in the game against Wayland. The Ghosts are now 5-0-1.

Ben Osgood of Westford Academy scored the only goal of the game off a penality kick about thirty minutes into the game. Juniors Scott McCord and Torsten Nilsson had good shots on net but were unable to capitalize. The Wayland goalie was effective in stopping the Westford offense; he had eight saves.

The game was won by the Westford defense. They allowed Wayland only three shots on goal and gave their offense chances to score. The defense was so effective that Westford’s offense was able to possess the ball almost the entire game. Westford defensive players include junior Derrick Naugler, senior Dan McCall, and senior Jonathan Walsh.

A yellow card was given to a Wayland defender towards the end of the game, after a hit he committed on sophomore Peter Hurley.

Westford Boys Soccer’s next game is Monday September 24 against DCL rival Acton-Boxborough.
