German Student Makes America his New Home

This summer, Philip Mzorinski moved to Westford from Germany. He is now spending his first year of high school and in America at Westford Academy.

He lived in Germany for 15 years until now, where he lives in Westford. Mzorinski moved here with his family because of his father’s job in communication up in Nashua. The school he previously attended was Realschule and is located south of Munich, Germany.

He explained that this school is much bigger and has a lot more people attending the school. He also says that the students in Germany were nice, “but not that nice.” School now, in his opinion, is fun to come to and he enjoys it.

“First impression- very good. The school is nice, the school is much bigger than in Germany, lots of people, and they [the students] are much nicer here,” he said.

Mzorinski has a secret talent: He used to coach a boys’ soccer team in Germany, at age 15. He hopes to become a girls’ soccer coach in America and has already recruited two hopeful soccer players to his future team.

As a German experiencing his first year with the crazy election that occurred, he says that the election didn’t change his opinion on America. He believes that there are better, smarter people in America, and he bases his opinions on them.

Over Thanksgiving, I was having a conversation with Mzorinski, and brought up the topic of cranberry sauce. He told me that he has never had that special Thanksgiving staple, and he promised that he would try it on Thanksgiving. The results were tremendous- he loved it! He also ate sweet potatoes and cheese fondue with his family.

When asked what his favorite things are about America so far, he said, “The sightseeing, this school, and the girls!”
