On the morning of Saturday, September 17,  WA Girls’ Varsity Field Hockey defeated Acton-Boxborough with a score of 1-0.

The game consisted of 2 thirty minute halves. No goals were scored during the first half and the winning goal, made by senior Colleen Ellis, was scored in the second half.

Within the first 5 minutes of the game, a player from Acton-Boxborough was knocked down but was able to shake it off and continue playing.

As the game went on, junior goalie Britta Cianciolo saved AB’s first shot, preventing them from gaining the first point. The score remained 0-0 10 minutes into the game. Sophomore Ellen Olszowy almost scored the first goal, but was stopped with 4 minutes remaining in the first half.

The first half ended with a score of 0-0. It was followed by a 10 minute break.

Seven minutes into the second half, WA was able to block AB’s attempt at scoring once again. The game was still tied 0-0 with 20 minutes left.

Ellis made the first goal with 5 minutes left in the game, making the score 1-0 with the Ghosts in the lead. The last minute of the game was intense, with AB almost scoring a goal that would have tied up the game. The Ghosts were able to prevent that from happening, however, and left the field with a 1-0 win.

The Ghosts go on the road to faceoff against Lincoln Sudbury on Monday at 4pm.
