The Westford Academy girls Softball team suffered a tough loss on Saturday June 4th, losing 8-5 to Revere and eliminating them from the playoffs.

Westford played aggressively from the first pitch and finished the last pitch just as strong.

In the first inning, sophomores Jacquelyn Andry, Marina Ottaviano, and Allison Mulhern each caught pop flies for the first, second, and third outs.

For her first at bat against Revere, Mulhern hit a liner to the third baseman and safely reached first base. Next up was Junior Ainsley Lamb, who laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Mulhern to third. After a sacrifice fly by senior Mikayla Murphy, Mulhern scored.

In the second inning Westford made defense look easy, and Revere went down again in 1,2,3 order.

Then, sophomore Emily Bramanti made a great catch in center field and threw the ball to third base for a double play to get out of the third inning.

Ottaviano scored in the fourth inning tying it up 2-2.

Although nobody scored in the fifth inning, Ainsley Lamb and Captain Caroline Baggeroer made great contact.

After Emma Paulauskas struck out a batter for the first out of the inning, great plays by Andry and Mulhern were made in the field.

Things looked great for WA at the bottom of the sixth inning, with Ottaviano hitting a single to shortstop. Freshman Elise Sepe hit a bomb to centerfield to score Ottaviano. With one on and one out, Mulhern hit a 2-run home run.

However, in the top of the seventh, Westford ran into troubles. After a 3 run home run hit by Revere, junior Angela Alibrandi made her entrance as pitcher. Alibrandi got Westford out of the inning after a ball was hit right to her, when she then stopped the ball and threw it to first for the out.

Westford was still down 3 by the bottom of the seventh, and ultimately lost 8-5 after a hard-fought game.
