Starting as a six year old throwing a football with his dad, junior Connor Degenhardt is on his way to Holy Cross in the fall of 2017 as he commits to playing football there during his college career.

“I’ve always loved the game, I’ve always been passionate about it and spent my whole life trying to better myself,” said Degenhardt.

Degenhardt has been playing football ever since he was a kid with his dad who has been his inspiration to continue playing. With his family coming from a line of divisional athletes, Degenhardt is excited to continue that.

Going to games in the past years have allowed him to see himself playing on the field as a part of the team.

Throughout his past years at WA, Degenhardt has spent time playing on the freshman, JV, and Varsity football team. He started his sophomore year as a member of the Varsity team.

Degenhardt has spent all his life trying to be able to play at a college-level team.

“Last year I felt very comfortable taking control of the team and the offense, and we had a great year. By the end of the season, our offence had really started to come together,” said Degenhardt.

“It’s really something I’ve worked for my whole life. Since I was little I always knew what playing at college meant; it meant you had the opportunity to go to college for free and get a scholarship,” he added.

Degenhardt is eagerly waiting to start his new life at Holy Cross, where his dad played football. Although he’s not sure of what he plans on majoring in, he’s thinking of psychology or business. He is also preparing for life outside of football and is certain that Holy Cross will guide him in the right direction.

“Holy Cross is a great place. It’s a school that I have grown up with and I know a lot about them. I’m very comfortable with the coaches and I feel like it’s a great fit academically and football there is great,” Degenhardt said.

As Degenhardt readies himself for his final year on the WA football team this fall, he is optimistic about wherever his football and college career will go in the future.

“I’m very appreciative to be at this point in my football career. I’m thankful for everyone that has helped me get here, my coaches, my friends, my family. I want to come in and play as much as I can and prepare myself for the next level. While it was a good milestone to reach, it’s back to work and focus on my senior season,” said Degenhardt.
