On February 2nd, 2016, the boys Varsity Basketball team played against a high powered Cambridge.  The Ghosts gave strong effort and fought until the very end but fell short.

WA had trouble creating space for their shooters and the contested shots weren’t falling for them as they lost to Cambridge by a final score of 68-55.

The first quarter started slow for WA as they weren’t able to score until some time into the game. The team was down quickly and clearly plagued by missed shots. Coach Chris Bramanti was quick to react and called WA’s first timeout with his team behind 10-2.  After this, the Ghosts were able to knock down a few shots and they were eventually able able to cut the deficit down to 6 and went into the second quarter down 17-11.

The second quarter was more of the same from WA.  Cambridge was quick to start and were consistent with their three point shooting as well as shooting from the free-throw line. With about five minutes remaining in the second, Coach Bramanti called another timeout as his team had fallen farther back and were now trailing 27-13.

The Ghosts struggled to find any rhythm shooting the ball and Cambridge continued to hit threes and played solid defense. Senior Scotty Callahan was able to break the WA cold streak after finding his way to the rim a few times at the end of the half.

After halftime, WA came out playing better basketball. Senior Scotty Callahan was first to score in the third quarter and senior Nick Fiorillo also got a few shots to fall. The team had the crowd cheering as they started cutting into their deficit more and more. Eventually, the Ghosts were able to come within six points of Cambridge.  Consistent rebounding aided this tremendous in this comeback.

To win, WA would have to continue their strong play into the fourth quarter.

The story of the fourth quarter was Cambridge getting to the free-throw line, which cost the Ghosts. They were down 52-42, but still had a chance to win.  However, as the game winded down to the final minutes, Cambridge scored almost every time they went down the court.

The game came to a close, and WA was handed a loss, by a final score of 68-55.
