Westford Academy Gymnastics win last meet of the season

On Monday January 25th, Westford Academy’s Gymnastics team won against Cambridge Rindge & Latin school. Westford Academy won overall with 138.4 points, whereas Cambridge received a cumulative score of 112.55.

Senior co-captains Jess Barry and Nicole Alipour communicated positive feelings before yesterday’s meet.

Barry said, “I think we’re going to do pretty well […] we’ve been practicing really hard lately, and we’ve done pretty well on our last couple meets […]”

As the meet started, Westford Academy was quickly in the lead. For the vault event, Westford Academy led with 34.65 points, whereas Cambridge had 29.6.

The next event were the bars. Westford Academy once again won 34.7 points, bringing their team to 69.36 as a cumulative score. Cambridge got 26 points for this event, with a total of 55.6 points.

During the Beam, Westford Academy received 34.4 points for the event, with a total of 103.75 points cumulatively. Cambridge  got 29.7 points, bringing them to a total of 85.3 points.

The last event of the night was the floor exercises. Westford Academy yet again came out on top with 34.65 points for the event and a total of 138.4 points all in all. Cambridge R&L got 27.25 points for this particular event, with a final score of 112.55.

There were minor injuries of players, however, Westford Academy’s gymnasts were able to pick themselves up and still dominate during yesterday’s Gymnastics meet.

Though Coach Stephanie Anderson thought her team could work collectively on their balance beam exercises, Anderson was overall “pleased” with her team’s performance.

The night closed up with Senior Night, a night to celebrate all the senior’s last night of the season.

Seniors Barry, Alipour, Nicole Bardasz and Emily Leonard were honored yesterday and given compliments and flowers from other team members.

As the night ended with tearful hugs and well wishes for the future for the seniors, Westford Academy ended its last game of the season on a high note.
