At Westford Academy on January 6th, the WA Girls’ Gymnastics team won over Acton Boxboro with a score of 131.75 to 127.7.

WA first started with the vault event and ended up with a total of 33.7 points. Vault was then followed by bar, and they earned a total of 31.1 points.

After bar, the team competed in the beam event, where they scored a total of 34.94 points. According to coach Stephanie Anderson, the beam event had been particularly bad for the team during the last few meets. However, this meet, the team showed a lot of improvement.

“Beam’s a huge improvement. Especially since Monday’s meet. Everyone stayed on,” said coach Stephanie Anderson.

The co-captains of the gymnastics team agreed with Anderson and also put in a few words of praise for the team.

“We did a lot better then we have [been doing]. We stuck beam. I think we all had a positive attitude today about competing, and we all did our best[…],” said senior co-captain Jess Barry.

The last event of the meet was floor, and the team scored a total of 32 points.

This was the fourth gymnastics meet this year for the team, and so far they have won three out of the four meets.

Barry believes the team will do well for the rest of the upcoming meets.

“I think we’re on a pretty good winning streak. I think we are all going to do very well [for the upcoming meets],” she said.
