The Grey Ghosts’ perfect season came to an end on Friday night as they lost 14-3 in the second round of the MIAA D2 playoffs to the Reading Rockets.

The theme for the first half of play was defense.  The only points of the half were scored by senior kicker Kyle Pilachowski, who kicked a field goal for three points. Both defenses made key stops to keep their teams in the game.  On the WA defense, big defensive stops came from juniors Eric Jacobsen and Cam Eldridge as well as seniors Nick Diamond and Nik Lizine.

The first half came to a close with an interception by Senior captain, Nick Fiorello. This gave them one last chance to score in the first half. However, the Ghosts would not score on this possession, leaving them with a 3-0 lead at the half.

Big gains on broken plays led to the Ghosts’ downfall in the second half.  The Ghosts’ chances of a comeback faltered when junior captain Conor Degenhardt’s pass was intercepted by the Rockets’ defense with less than 2 minutes left in the game. They would go on to lose 14-3. The Ghosts’ hard fought game was not enough to put them through to the third round of the playoffs. With an impressive 7-1 record on the season, the Ghosts exited the field, cheered on by their supportive fans.

Their next game is TBD (to be determined).
