In reflection of the new style and new instructor of the marching band, WA is sporting a brand new uniform. Under the instruction of the head of middle school band, Mr. Arsenault, this year’s marching band packs a punch.
Though this year’s marching season involves less commitment for the students, the band couldn’t be more dedicated. These budding musicians attend regular practices on Mondays to rehearse for the much acclaimed half-time show, performed at WA home varsity games. This new half-time show displays the catchy tunes of Stevie Wonder such as “Superstition”, “Don’t Worry About A Thing”, and “Signed, Sealed, Delivered.”
While the players are doing their thing, the marching band is doing theirs. They encourage the players and show school pride by playing tunes in the stands. Whenever WA scores a touchdown, the band responds by playing the school fight song, “On Wisconsin.” Other popular songs are played as well, such as “Sweet Caroline.”
Since WAMB changed it’s style, it’s only natural that it changed it’s image. The uniforms are Westford Academy colors, maroon and black. The traditional hats with plumes, or feathers have been discarded. They’ve been replaced by gray baseball caps. Several students are upset with this change. They find the new jackets to be warm and comfortable, but many students have said that they miss the feathers.
As for the marching, several people find the marching band’s energy and enthusiasm to be a plus, but the formation is still sloppy, at this point in the year. Marching band members have made the point, however, that with 40 people on the feild performing stunts gets a little tricky.

Being a retired band geek, I was extremely disappointed not to see a picture of the new uniforms.
It would have been informative to see a picture of one of the band members photographed in the old uniform and then in the new uniform.
