People walking into Witches Woods are greeted by horrifying Halloween characters. Attention is fully drawn to the faces of these actors, so no one thinks of who is responsible for these gruesome creations. Pascale Yacavone, a senior at Westford Academy, worked at the popular Halloween attraction, Witches Woods, as a makeup artist this fall.

Pascale specializes in blood work and prosthetics when applying makeup. Pascale, earlier in her life, helped her mother with molding soap at her soap company, which sparked her interest in prosthetic work.

“I have always had a passion for theatrical makeup,” said Yacovone.

Knowing her talent and love for this activity, she thought it made sense to get paid for what she enjoys to do.

Yacavone stated that she has a good time, and it’s easy for her to do a good job because of her prior experience.

“I like going to work, I know a lot of people hate their jobs,” said Yacovone, “I have a really good time.”

One of the only pressures of Yacavone’s is her time limit: she only has an hour and a half to get the makeup done for 200 Witches Woods characters. The characters can also vary in terms of the intensity of their makeup, which makes her job all the more stressful.

When Yacavone is done making all the characters scary and dripping with blood, she is assigned to an effect room, where she works on managing sparks and other special effects around the theme park.

“[Every Halloween] I do my own makeup and my friends, [it’s the Halloween and makeup experience] I have for the month,” said Yacavone.
