Football brings home another victory against Lincoln-Sudbury

In a Friday night thriller on Oct. 2nd that required all fourty-four minutes, the Westford Academy Grey Ghost bested the Lincoln-Sudbury Warriors in the Ghosts DCL-Large opening game.

The Ghosts flashed their potent offense as they found the endzone on their first drive of the game with the help from Senior Captain wide receiver Nick Fiorillo, who caught a twenty-six yard TD pass from Junior QB Connor Degenhardt.

“The offense is coming together really well,” Fiorillo said, “We’re gonna keep getting better and better each week.”

Each teams’ defense stood sturdy, but many controversial penalties held the Ghosts to a 7-7 tie going into half time.

Senior kicker Kyle Pilachowski nailed a 28 yard field goal halfway through the third quarter to elevate the Ghosts’ lead to 10-7, but the Warriors responded quickly, scoring on a long broken play to close out the third quarter.

The Ghosts, down 7-14 in the fourth, needed their defense to come up with a turnover in order to prevent a late 14 point deficit. Junior Eric Jacobsen did just that on a diving interception that would eventually lead to a go-ahead Ben Cassidy score with 2:46 remaining.

Cassidy broke a tackle and then carried defenders over the goal-line for a 15 yard touchdown.

“The whole offense played great”, Cassidy said,”Offensive line made the whole play happen, it was a big turning point in the game. ”

The Warriors then slowly drove down the field In the final minutes but were ultimately stopped with the helps of key defensive plays by Senior Captain Nick Diamond, and juniors Ben Antes, and Eric Jacobsen.

On the last play of the game LS came up short on a field goal, and the Ghosts held onto a 16-14 win that now puts them at 3-0.

The Ghosts continue their DCL schedule next week as they play their first home game of the season against Waltham.
