India Palace, a restaurant located in Chelmsford, serves traditional Indian cuisine including dishes like biryani, variety of chicken, and sweets.

When we entered the restaurant, the ambience was welcoming and friendly. Paintings decorated the walls throughout the hall while traditional bollywood music helped bolster the Indian scene.

We had the lunch buffet which included chicken, lamb, rice, and vegetarian options along with other dishes. Fresh garlic butter naan was provided at the table in a basket. It was soft and crispy at the edges which complimented the curries.

The service at the restaurant was friendly and checked in on us every once in a while, refilling our glasses and making sure we had naan.

I had some tandoori chicken as an appetizer along with gobi manchurian. Manchurian is an Indo-Chinese dish and can vary in types such as chicken manchurian and veg manchurian. The chicken was roasted and seasoned with many spices. It was covered in red pepper, which gave off a bright color. I thought the chicken consisted of the right amount of spices which allowed every bite to be savory. The meat was nice and soft which made it easy to eat. At India Palace, the gobi manchurian was made of fried cauliflower. I am personally not a fan of cauliflower, but the manchurian put a nice twist to the vegetable which I enjoyed. Vada sambar, a south Indian dish commonly used for breakfast, was also available. The sambar is a type of soup in which the vada is dipped in. It was rich in spices and added taste to the vada. The vada was a donut shaped snack with vegetables and spices.

For the main course I had chicken tikka masala, which is chicken pieces in a type of sauce called masala. The masala included spices which blended together for a nice taste with the chicken. I ate this with naan and rice. Other choices as a main course included lamb curry, paneer (which is vegetarian), and more.

Finally, I chose kheer for dessert which is a type of Indian rice pudding with milk and sugar. It was sweet and cold like it is supposed to be.

As we left the palace, we were satisfied with our lunch and would love to go back again. The variety in dishes surely provide a meal for everyone.

India Palace is at 313 Littleton Road in Chelmsford. It is open for lunch buffet Monday to Friday from 11:30-3:00. Dinner is from 5:00-9:30 Monday to Thursday and 5:00-10:00 on Friday.
